Matthew D. Ooten
CEO & Founder
Matthew D. Ooten received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee where he majored in legal studies. He then went on to attend law school at Lincoln Memorial University - Duncan School of Law. While in law school Mr. Ooten served as the SBA president. He graduated with his law degree and started practicing as an attorney in 2013. In 2019, Mr. Ooten opened his own practice specializing in criminal defense where he focuses on representation of clients from the pre-charge investigative phase through trial and appeals. Mr. Ooten’s criminal experience includes DUI, theft, drug, domestic assault, and murder charges, along with numerous other misdemeanor and felony offenses. The firm specializes in additional areas of expertise including family law and disability law.

Crystal J. Harris
Attorney
Crystal J. Harris received her undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, where she majored in Criminal Justice. Crystal then moved to Knoxville where she attended Lincoln Memorial Duncan School of Law.
Crystal became a law clerk in our office in August of 2023. She took the bar in February of 2024 and is now our newest attorney at the firm. Since then, Crystal has gotten experience in both criminal defense and disability law. Crystal’s criminal experience consists of DUIs, theft charges, drug charges, and more.
In her free time Crystal likes to spend time with her loved ones (and her 2 dogs). She also loves spending time at the lake and enjoying the outdoors.
Lindsey Higdon
Paralegal
Lindsey is a dedicated paralegal with close to five years of experience in the legal field. Lindsey focuses on both criminal and family law cases at The Ooten Law Firm. Lindsey has a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Tennessee Technological University and is currently a third-year law student at Lincoln Memorial University: Duncan School of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Lindsey's free time is spent with her Golden Retriever, Grace, exploring parks and hiking trails. She also enjoys spending time with her family relaxing at home.

Brittani is an accomplished paralegal with over 10 years of experience in the legal field. In addition to her extensive expertise in legal research and case management, she also serves as the office manager for The Ooten Law Firm, ensuring seamless operations and effective team collaboration. Her commitment to excellence and strong organizational skills makes her an invaluable asset to the firm. Brittani is a sports lover and UT Vols football devotee. She embodies the spirit of the UT Vols, cheering on the team with unwavering loyalty as she proudly graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2017.
